Interim chief executive officer Mike McNees will guide USA Track and Field (USATF) through preparations for the 2012 London Olympics, the US athletics governing body announced Wednesday. The move puts on hold the search for a new USATF chief executive that began last September when the group fired Doug Logan. Three shortlisted candidates for the job had been interviewed from an early field of 100 but no-one was hired.

With only 51 weeks before the start of the 2012 US Olympic track and field trials for the London Games, the plan approved last weekend would create three committees under McNees to handle logistics for the year ahead. Committees on management, operations and strategic positions-commercial objectives were approved by the USATF board of directors.
"It is important for USATF's Board of Directors to create an environment that harnesses and unites the expertise and talents of each board member and the staff?s executive management team," USATF president Stephanie Hightower said. "We need to ensure we engage individuals where they can add value to the federation?s goals and future success."
