Our volunteers were underfed and the blue and green colour scheme was "pale and too complex". Those are just a few of the complaints about our 2010 Winter Olympics found in reports by the U.K. Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The Vancouver Sun obtained the memos meant to help the Brits host the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
The British observers were most critical of the transportation plan, which they found confusing and especially poor for VIPs, and thought the Games were too focused on BC with little Canada-wide participation. It wasn't all complaining though - the free live sites - especially Robson Square with its zip-line, were seen as hugely successful, along with low-key but tight security. The biggest lesson they hope to pass on to London 2012? Make sure the people embrace the Games with the same passion we had in Vancouver.
And maybe sell red mittens.
